RISK TAKING IS FREE
.
To laugh is to risk appearing the fool
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental
To reach out for another is to risk involvement
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self
To place your ideas, your dreams
before the crowd is to risk a loss
To love is to risk not being loved in return
To live is to risk dying
To hope is to risk despair
To try is to risk failure,
But risk must be taken, because the greatest
hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing, does nothing,
has nothing, and is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he
simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow,
love, live.
Chained to his certitudes, he is a slave,
he has forfeited freedom.
Only a person who risks ..... is free

And the biggest thrill
is the risk of it All.

Angel Dust, Hugs & zillions of dusties flowing gently your way

Dear Q

It is interesting, how the "re-Wording" of the last half of the poem in your brief sentence gives it "fuller" meaning... a more positive slant - I like it!

:)

Playful galaxy traveled dusties to back to ya!

Without risk, we'd have a shell.
I love the colourful photo and the words! Very encouraging! Thank you!

Sounds right to me. At the same time, risk is, well, risky. Sometimes more than others. And to take the courageous attitude you present is no guarantee of success outside of preserving one's integrity. Which isn't a small matter, but also doesn't necessarily mean that we won't fail in other ways where we would have liked to succeed.

Me too, me too - I so love that photo - the colours just resonate with me!! And the poem - a reminder I wouldn't mind putting on my wall, to remind me to live a little!

I always tell the kids, when they someone laughs 'funny', or when they sing out of tune- how much better to hear this, than the sound of sobbing. And if sobbing disturbs someone - how much better to hear the cries, and be able to respond, than to face a wall of silence!

Taking the risk is the one thing most of us fear to do in one way or other, and as said here - it's what would set us free!

Thank you for sharing this poem by an unknown author. So true ... so inspiring.
Risk giving up self for others ... and become more loving and selfless.
Hugs for you. :o)

Thank you Katie
I got an entire series of these photos - beach pics I just digitally distorted, and voila - the Mardigras Series was born...

An orgy of color!

Hmmmmmmm .... Paul

My interpretation of "risk" in this case is to go "forward despite trepidation and or fear".

Staying put has even less garantes as it can swallow you up into a dark black hole, as with risking - any (a smart) risker knows that while the outcome may not be the desired one but it will be a lesson in it if nothing else.
Moving on to plan B!

How does that quote go? About the importance of the jouney not so much of the destination...
Which, brings me back to the thought process after " a perceived failure"...

(I am not talking about blind foolishness here either...)

Dear Annelisa

Putting the focus on the gain/positive not the loss/negative is an acquired behaviour more than just mere thinking

Me too, me too - I looooooooove it!

Hi TrinityStar

That is a risky risk!
Yet it can be immensely rewarding

Big Hug
